Charles James Williams is out of work. Nonetheless, he's a grateful man this holiday season.

Newly free after spending about six months in jail for burglarizing churches to support a crack cocaine habit, Williams, 55, has been welcomed into the Frederick County Drug Treatment Court.

To be accepted into the program, Williams had to admit guilt for his crimes -- and the eight local churches he burglarized had to go along with the plea agreement reached by the defense and the prosecution.

"I attribute it to God," Williams said. "It's nothing short of a miracle."

The incentive to abide by the rules of drug court is great -- failure to do so could result in a 30-year prison sentence on burglary charges.

"At 55, that would be a life sentence," Williams said.

The father of two sons ages 13 and 25, wants to warn young people not to get sucked into addiction through peer pressure.

Hollywood takes action hero Jesus to India

Casting for suitable Bollywood and Hollywood actors has begun. "The Bible devotes just seven words to the most formative years of Yeshua's life saying: 'The boy grew in wisdom and stature'. The [film] will follow Christ's journey to the east where he encounters other traditions, and discovers the principles that are the bedrock of all the world's great religions," said Drew Heriot, the film's director, whose credits include the cult hit The Secret. The film, which is due for release in 2009, sets out to be a fantasy action adventure account of Jesus's life with the three wise men as his mentors. Although the producers say the film will feature a "young and beautiful" princess, it is not clear whether Jesus is to have a love interest. The producers say they are hoping for commercial and spiritual gains.

Saving the soldiers we neglect

Where we come in is that we can help to raise the funds so our soldiers get really excellent facilities."

The charity is the brainchild of Parry, 51, a cartoonist and former member of the Royal Green Jackets, and Sarah-Jane Shirreff, wife of General Sir Richard Shirreff, former commander of British forces in Basra.

Through its website it will also allow the public to "help a hero" in any way they see fit - perhaps by offering tickets to football matches or funding a meal out. Already this aspect of the appeal has been kickstarted by retailers - Dixons has donated 1,000 MP3 players and PC World has provided a number of combined television-computers.

The Clarksons became involved in the cause of Britain’s war wounded last year when they met Lance Bombardier Ben Parkinson at Selly Oak hospital - where a military-managed ward, albeit with beds for only 14 patients, gives primary care to injured service personnel returning from combat zones.

GOP VIPs ponder David Iglesias fallout

Damron from the ticket last year in favor of John Dendahl.

Dendahl wound up receiving little support from the state party and stumbled to a historic defeat, then left the state with a less-than-generous benediction.

"The Republican Party is mortally wounded," Cargo, who sits on the party's central committee, said. "But once Bill (Richardson) leaves and these indictments come down, there may not be much left of the Democratic Party either."

For now, at least, Democrats seemed happy to watch the unfolding battle in their opponent's camp. Matt Farrauto, the executive director of the New Mexico Democratic Party, said he had little to add to what had already been reported, but did his best.

Brutally parodying an episode last year in which Domenici was seen at his Capital Hill office wearing what were described as pajamas - Domenici said they were actually hunting pants - Farrauto said it was increasingly clear the venerable senator was vulnerable.

Quickly's Neighbors/Lake County

I live in Griffith, and a friend of mine lives in Highland. The gross valuations of our homes are identical, as are our deductions. Can someone explain why I have to pay $850 more in property taxes than he does? And Highland is a much nicer town.

Mayor Rudy Clay reminds me of that old Jackie Gleason bit in which he says to Alice: "I'm the boss. You're nothing!" Her reply: "Big deal. You're the boss over nothing!" Take a look around Gary, Rudy. You're the boss over nothing.

State Sen. Earline Rogers and state Rep. Charlie Brown oppose South Shore expansion because their constituents "don't see anything in it for them." Well, I don't see anything for me in the Marquette Plan, regional busing or the Gary Airport expansion, so I want the RDA to cut them off!

Former Crown Point Mayor Dan Klein needs to pay ...

Donation will help agency's works

A donation from the Val Verde County Sheriffs Office will help a local agency in areas where traditional funding does not cover.

Earlier this month the Sheriffs Office Santas donated $400 to the Quad Counties Council for Alcohol and Drug Abuse.

According to Quad Counties Executive Director Simon Sotelo, the money will be used to help fund incentives used to draw people toward events that focus on drug prevention and awareness. Areas typically not allowed by the state agencies that fund the organization.

(This money) will enable us to do prevention more effectively, especially in training parents in different subjects related to substance abuse prevention with adolescent kids, such as recognizing early signs (of drug use), said Sotelo.

Sotelo said some of the money will be spent on a project called Quad en tu Barrio (Quad in your neighborhood), where Quad Counties hosts loteria (bingo) sessions in different area colonias.

Pete Doherty Caught Injecting Heroin on Film

Pete Doherty has been caught injecting heroin on film, just hours after claiming he was drugs free.
The Babyshambles rocker is shown in the footage - shot on a mobile phone at his Wiltshire home on Friday (02.11.07) - 'cooking up' the class A drug in a spoon before filling up a needle and sticking it into his right arm.

Pete, 28, is seen still wearing the green wristband from the MTV Europe Music Awards in Germany the night before, at which he boasted he was still clean after spending six weeks in rehab and even joked he "missed" hard drugs.

A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "It's not the first time he's injected since he was supposed to have got clean. He may have got clean through rehab, but as soon as the temptation is put in front of him, he cannot help himself.

Services needed to break young user cycle

TEENAGERS are dying and families are being torn apart due to a lack of services for adolescent drug addicts, campaigners have claimed. A shortage of detox facilities for teenagers, a lack of mental health beds, no proper aftercare for teen drug users when they come out of treatment along with limited accommodation facilities for recovering addicts are combining to create a crisis within Ireland's adolescent population.

While services for teenage addicts improved in recent years, much of a 2005 government-sponsored report on the problem remains to be implemented.

Professionals have identified the lack of residential detox facilities, specifically earmarked for adolescents, as a key weakness in the State's battle against drug addiction.

Two of the country's main drug treatment centres, Beaumount Hospital and Cuan Dara in Dublin, have no designated detox programmes or beds for under-18s.
