Chelsea Flower Show 2008: Grand plans

Home for Lady Lennox-Boyd, the wife of Sir Mark Lennox-Boyd, former Parliamentary Private Secretary to Margaret Thatcher, is Gresgarth Hall, Caton, a Victorian house in Sir Mark's old Lancashire constituency.

And here, looking across acres of richly planted terraces, borders, walled garden, meadow, bog and woodland, framed by a lake, steep hillsides and a fast-flowing river, no-one can be left in any doubt about her appetite for her subject.

It is the red-blooded passion of an Italian, for Arabella Lennox-Boyd, née Parisi, was born and brought up in Rome. She says it was the Apennine Mountains and their wildflowers that were her early love.

'Blade runner' loses Beijing hopes

The runner finished second in an able-bodied race in Rome in 2007, then came last and was subsequently disqualified for stepping out of his lane in a race in Sheffield, England later the same year.

The IAAF said that after the Italian race, evidence suggested an athlete with prosthetic limbs performed differently than an able-bodied athlete, and it agreed with Pistorius that more tests were needed.

The IAAF does not prohibit prosthetic limbs in able-bodied sports, but it does ban technical aids. Pistorius is reported to be considering an appeal against the verdict.

Athletics South Africa said it would immediately apply the decision which does does not affect Pistorius' eligibility for Paralympic events.

"It's unfortunate because he could have boosted team athletics at the Olympics at Beijing because he had the potential to qualify," said Leonard Chuene, president of Athletics South Africa.

Attorney general warns of widespread banking scam

A new identity theft scheme is targeting Texans and their financial institutions, according to the Texas Attorney General's Office. Spoof e-mails are directing Amarillo National Bank customers — who have been one of the biggest targets of this latest scam — to call a telephone number and confirm their personal information. Customers who make the call do not actually reach their hometown banker, but instead end up on the telephone with a scam artist who wants to steal their identity. This type of scam, also known as "phishing," typically involves e-mails that falsely appear to have been sent by trusted and well-known institutions, such as large banks or popular Internet-based merchants, such as eBay and PayPal. In the latest twist, however, identity thieves are clearly targeting Texans by posing as trusted local institutions. The Office of the Attorney General first learned of the Amarillo National Bank scam when its own employees received a series of e-mails with the subject line: "New Message From Amarillo National Bank." The e-mails read, in part:We recently reviewed your account, and we suspect an unauthorized ATM based transaction.

Holiday stress can lead to depression

While most people are singing carols and wrapping gifts during the holidays, those who struggle with mental illness often feel increased pain and isolation. Terese Gessler knows, because she's been there.

"The bigness of it, how it comes across as being a very extreme holiday," said Gessler, 38, who was diagnosed with major depression and anxiety at age 14. "The stresses that go with it shopping, parties, family gatherings."

Although statistics show that suicides in Sheboygan County aren't higher than at other times of the year, mental health professionals and law enforcement officers in Sheboygan see the result of the increased stress and pressure Christmas can bring.

"This can be a very lonely, depressing time for people," said Beverly Randall of Mental Health America in Sheboygan County.
