Britney Spears fails to regain lost visitation rights

BRITNEY Spears will not be able to visit her sons at least until her next custody hearing in February and K-Fed has full custody until April.

TMZ.com reports that Commissioner Scott Gordon ruled against restoring the visitation rights she lost after the four hour standoff with emergency services a few weeks ago.

The Commissioner heard evidence from several other witnesses, including Spears's ex-husband Kevin Federline, two LAPD cops who responded to a custody standoff a week ago Thursday; a parenting coach; a bodyguard, and the court monitor who was present during the drama.

PageSix.com reports that the January 4 emergency order which gave Federline custody of sons Sean and Jayden was extended today until April.

Britney arrived more than three hours late amid chaos at the courthouse packed with a media throng.

Donation will help agency's works

A donation from the Val Verde County Sheriffs Office will help a local agency in areas where traditional funding does not cover.

Earlier this month the Sheriffs Office Santas donated $400 to the Quad Counties Council for Alcohol and Drug Abuse.

According to Quad Counties Executive Director Simon Sotelo, the money will be used to help fund incentives used to draw people toward events that focus on drug prevention and awareness. Areas typically not allowed by the state agencies that fund the organization.

(This money) will enable us to do prevention more effectively, especially in training parents in different subjects related to substance abuse prevention with adolescent kids, such as recognizing early signs (of drug use), said Sotelo.

Sotelo said some of the money will be spent on a project called Quad en tu Barrio (Quad in your neighborhood), where Quad Counties hosts loteria (bingo) sessions in different area colonias.

Virtualization: Hot technology for 2008

VMware's final numbers for 2007 aren't out yet, but the company is on pace to hit US$1.5 billion.

In August, EMC engineered an IPO for 10% of VMware. It turned out to be the most successful high-tech IPO since Google, with EMC raising nearly US$1 billion when 33 million shares were snapped up at an opening price of US$29. The stock continued to soar, exceeding US$50 a share on opening day, and soon thereafter cresting at more than US$125 a share. Today, VMware is selling at close to about US$80 a share, which gives the company a market capitalization of around US$30 billion. That's hot.

And the virtualization market is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, IDC is predicting that worldwide spending on virtualization software and services is expected to jump from US$6.5 billion in 2006 to more than US$15 billion in 2011.

Only two more shopping days until I return to the final days of the City Council campaigns. Then, we'll have fun taking apart the campaigns. Any dirt yet? Any mudslinging. You know, the good stuff. Or is everyone behaving? My wife is now looking over my shoulder -- literally -- so I have to pretend that I'm just checking ball scores. See ya in two days. Here's Wild Card ...

Cook column: Treating juveniles as adults

What a difference two years and a murder conviction can make.

In Post photos, young Christopher Crocker appears to have evolved from defiant teenager at his arrest in 2006 to apologetic adolescent at his day of judgment last Thursday.

Which is the real Christopher Crocker? Everyone goes through changes between the ages of 15 and 17. Having spent 16 months in juvenile detention awaiting trial, Crocker may have changed more than most. He could have wised up. Or he might have become more hardened — and a better actor.

I thought jurors might go soft and choose manslaughter instead of murder after Crocker cried on the stand about the crime he'd committed. But they weren't buying it. A boy who swipes his dad's truck and steals gasoline with enough forethought and savvy to cover the license plate is no stranger to trouble.
