Joe Arpaio and Andrew Thomas are teaching the rest of the nation how ...

On a cool, clear Friday night in early February, about a hundred people are packed into the Casa Blanca Lounge on Van Buren Street in downtown Phoenix. Many of them have come for "communion" with local punk/thrash quartet NunZilla. But the "nuns" here aren't anything like the ones who rapped your knuckles with rulers in Catholic school, and this communion is more like an anarchistic tent revival. .

Antigua worth knowing

ENGLISH HARBOUR, ANTIGUA: The island with 365 powdery-sand beaches, one for each day of the year, is one of the least-known Caribbean islands to most Americans.

But two Brits, Adm. Horatio Nelson and guitarist Eric Clapton, were and are very familiar with Antigua, a former British colony that is popular with yachters and the the nautical crowd.

Nelson commanded the British naval base and shipyard at English Harbour on the island's southern coast in the 1780s. His dockyard no longer caters to naval ships. Instead, it serves sailing ships and yachts.

Clapton has built his $8 million house along the rocky southern shore not far from English Harbour, as well as a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. Antigua has been a second home to Clapton.

English Harbour is one of the top tourist hubs on Antigua, along with Dickenson Bay on the north coast.

2007: What

A Year!

Looking

Back

(to back

to back)

This past year will long be remembered as the one that put Boone on the national map after the Appalachian State Mountaineers pulled what has been hailed as the college football upset of the century — defeating Michigan 34-32 on Sept. 1 in Ann Arbor. The implausible win was a prelude to the Mountaineers’ third consecutive national championship. For a look back on the year that was, please read on.

• RedTail Mountain, a gated residential community situated 20 miles northwest of Boone, unveils its plans to the public. The community occupies land formerly known as Roan Valley Country Club Estates. The property features an 18-hole golf course and a private lake house and dock on Watauga Lake.

Nic Cage's Naked Intruder Sentenced

The latest on the bizarre break-in.

The man who broke into the home of NICOLAS CAGE has been sentenced to six months in rehab, Reuters reports.

ROBERT DENNIS FURO JR. pleaded guilty to one count of felony stalking, while two other charges were dropped. He was also given credit for time served. His attorney said he was in a compromised state due to sleeping pills and Vicodin.

Last October, the 46-year-old man gained entrance to the actor's Newport Beach residence, where he stripped nude and put on Cage's leather jacket.

Cage and his family were home at the time. He confronted the intruder and escorted the man out of his home without incident.

Meat-Axe Justice

So many black males are going to prison now that it is a black rite of passage; their forced surrender to reality of justice in America.

In nine states, up to 40% of black males are not permitted to vote because their citizenship has been taken away.

Of course, now there are over a million black males in prison, but is anyone troubled by this?

Not really, and besides, the good people of Tehachapi are begging bread from a flush-with-money prison system to build their hospital. Doesn't this strike anyone as even a tiny bit odd?

Since many claim scripture for guidance, don't you think there is some counsel therein for conscientious citizens? What about a cruel David and the little ewe lamb? Do we have the wit to discern and repent when timely truths visit?

David did, to his credit.

Pop Tarts: Top Ten Celebrity Meltdowns: Who Went Mad and Made a Mess ...

And while Britney Spears won't be winning any awards for her VMA performance, she does (surprise, surprise) take the gold for the greatest meltdown of the year, topping Pop Tarts' list of Tinseltown's most troubled.

"2007 has probably been the worst year of Britney's life, with so many bizarre behaviors — fights with the paparazzi and her mother, custody battles, binge drinking and car accidents. However, the number one meltdown is the shaving of her head," said Patrick Wanis, a psychologist and celebrity behavior expert who worked with Pop Tarts to compile the Top Ten.

"Few people realized how serious this incident was and what it signified. Although in some cultures shaving the head can represent cleansing or letting go of the old self, in Britney's case it was really more about self-mutilation and self-loathing than a spiritual ritual."

But Brit is in close company with her former panty-free party pals Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton, who take second and third place respectively.
