A Neolib New Deal?:

Omigod, not the Web site! Will Saletan argues the fuss over Lieberman's downed Web site shows the Internet has "arrived" as a force in politics:

... [I]n the election's final hours, the Lieberman campaign treated the crash of its Web site as fatal sabotage, and the media and law enforcement took the charge seriously. Losing your Web site on Election Day is now regarded as the equivalent of having your phones jammed or your TV ads rejected by stations. Even for campaigns that don't use it well, the Web has become not just an asset, but a necessity.

Hmmm. Here's an alternative theory: Lieberman "treated the crash of its Web site as fatal sabotage" because that was a great anti-Lamont story for him to have in the headlines during the last 24 hours of the campaign! I doubt the Web site was particularly vital to the incumbent senator's old-fashioned campaign.

Rogers shares hurt by talk of Telus technology shift

The main selling point of GSM (global system for mobile communication) is that it's the most popular cellphone technology around the world. That means GSM carriers such as Rogers tend to get devices at cheaper prices and sooner than their rivals, including Telus, which use CDMA (code division multiple access) technology.

Making such a jump, however, would be a tricky endeavour for Telus. It could cost anywhere from several hundred million up to a billion dollars, analysts reckon. Moreover, the time required for such a change is uncertain, with some suggesting it could be done within a year and others estimating it could take twice as long.

"I don't envy the decision because I don't think it's an easy one," said National Bank Financial Inc. analyst Greg MacDonald.

Cage's naked intruder sent to rehab

The naked intruder that Nicolas Cage found in his home last year has been ordered to undergo six months of drug rehab, according to officials.

Robert Dennis Furo, pleaded guilty to one count of stalking during a court appearance just outside of Los Angeles.

A judge dropped two charges against the 46-year-old and gave credit for time already served.

Cage and his family were at their waterfront home in the exclusive, gated community of Newport Beach on October 1 when Furo entered the house.

The National Treasure star found Furo standing near a bathroom wearing nothing but one of his leather jackets.

The Oscar-winning actor confronted him, asked him to remove the jacket, escorted him outside, and called a security guard.

Furo's lawyer, Jack Kayajanian, said his client was in a stupor caused by sleeping pills and the prescription pain killer Vicodin.
