From the Editor :

Sorry to see Shaun Pollock go. I hate to think he was pushed as has been suggested by some commentators. I was lucky enough to see him almost take the match away from Australia in Adelaide in 1998 during an amazing day of bowling in typical Adelaide summer weather (bloody hot). He toiled all day (Donald was injured) and took a bunch of wickets on a heart-breaking pitch in Australia's first innings to give South Africa a big lead - the innings was also notable for Mark Taylor carrying his bat, which was probably the difference in the end between a South African win and the eventual draw. South Africa came within three Aussie wickets of winning that match. Shaun Pollock has done his gene pool proud, and that's not an easy feat considering who's in that gene pool.

Pat McKee: High School Q&A

Answer: The way the tournament is set up, Ben Davis and North Central would meet in a girls basketball regional game if each wins its respective sectional. Thus, only one of them could reach the semistate and become a final four team in Class 4A. As of now, the favorites to be the final four teams in Class 4A would be South Bend Washington, Fort Wayne South, Ben Davis and Terre Haute South.

Question: Has there been any talk of Franklin Central's Patrick Bade possibly being recruited for both football and basketball at any school? What level do you think he should play at in both sports? (Ethan from Indianapolis)

Answer: I checked with Franklin Central coaches Mark James and Lance Scheib. Coach James told me that Patrick Bade is being recruited at the Division I level for both football and basketball, but that he is unaware of any school recruiting Bade for both sports.

A Neolib New Deal?:

Omigod, not the Web site! Will Saletan argues the fuss over Lieberman's downed Web site shows the Internet has "arrived" as a force in politics:

... [I]n the election's final hours, the Lieberman campaign treated the crash of its Web site as fatal sabotage, and the media and law enforcement took the charge seriously. Losing your Web site on Election Day is now regarded as the equivalent of having your phones jammed or your TV ads rejected by stations. Even for campaigns that don't use it well, the Web has become not just an asset, but a necessity.

Hmmm. Here's an alternative theory: Lieberman "treated the crash of its Web site as fatal sabotage" because that was a great anti-Lamont story for him to have in the headlines during the last 24 hours of the campaign! I doubt the Web site was particularly vital to the incumbent senator's old-fashioned campaign.

Cage's naked intruder sent to rehab

The naked intruder that Nicolas Cage found in his home last year has been ordered to undergo six months of drug rehab, according to officials.

Robert Dennis Furo, pleaded guilty to one count of stalking during a court appearance just outside of Los Angeles.

A judge dropped two charges against the 46-year-old and gave credit for time already served.

Cage and his family were at their waterfront home in the exclusive, gated community of Newport Beach on October 1 when Furo entered the house.

The National Treasure star found Furo standing near a bathroom wearing nothing but one of his leather jackets.

The Oscar-winning actor confronted him, asked him to remove the jacket, escorted him outside, and called a security guard.

Furo's lawyer, Jack Kayajanian, said his client was in a stupor caused by sleeping pills and the prescription pain killer Vicodin.
